Hey Man, you good?

Hey man – June is men’s health month – you ready to get real? One out of 8 of us have ADHD. One out of 5 of us are depressed. 2 out of 5 of us are obese. Every other one of us (1 out of 2) have heart problems – and yes, high blood pressure and jacked up cholesterol are “heart problems“.

The two of those together often lead to problems “downstairs“, which is a strong link to men developing depression, and it becomes the circle of suck.

The worst thing? Ever wondered why women live 7-8 years longer than men? We’re optimists. A study showed that women often have a character trait called “necessary worry” – if the check engine light goes off, they’ll actually get the engine checked. Men, as for us? We’ve got “health optimism”. Rub some dirt on it, walk it off, you’ll be fine. It’s like with your car: Gas tank’s low? We’re fine, we’ll make it to the next exit. Check engine light’s on? It’s probably fine. Next thing you know, your car’s broken down on the side of the road, possibly on fire… and by “car” I mean “your health”.

So let’s get real. June is men’s health month. Use it as an opportunity to check your dashboard for the check engine lights that you’ve been ignoring, the things thay have been demanding your attention. Don’t be that guy who’s got his arms and legs broken and is literally on fire while insisting that he’s fine.

The payoff is that you get real health – a life with more energy, more stamina, mental clarity, awesome mood, and so much more – it’s worth that little bit of necessary worry. It’s never too late to work towards being the healthiest you.
